Wildlife Conservation Fund
BioContact
The objective of the wildlife Conservation fund is to improve the understanding of our environment through education and conservation programmes on biodiversity and its components, which ensure that future generations will enjoy their resources in balance with nature; assuming responsible actions and awareness of the impact we have on it.
BIOCONTACT WITH THE PUBLIC OPINION OF MERIDA
Felipe Pereira, director of Biocontacto, announces the forced closure of the establishment. The closure was carried out through the eviction of both wild and domestic animals, by order of the National Directorate of Biological Diversity of the Ministry of the Environment, acting under an order of the National Environmental Defense Prosecutor’s Office.
The Universidad de los Andes requested this action after terminating an agreement that originally extended until 2036. During its seven years of operation, Biocontacto established itself as a tourist reference point, especially serving children from all social classes and people with disabilities.
Pereira expresses his gratitude to all the visitors and collaborators during these seven years of work, highlighting the achievements made and the positive impact that the project had on the community. Despite the current obstacles, he maintains his conviction that Biocontacto was “the perfect project in the country that it should be,” contrary to those who considered it “the perfect project in the wrong country.”
